Careful, it’s HOT…

…and TASTY! Just drop that in a cup of hot tea or even eat it straight up. Mmm.
Despite having drawn this, I don’t actually recommend approaching a beehive in the nude like this bearded fool. Or maybe he’s just topless. Still, not smart.

It was great working on this piece with SooJin Buzelli for Planadviser’s “Hot Off The Presses” section.
The honeycomb pattern wasn’t always there. I had originally played with the idea of a strange geometric shape or weird alien fruit (see sketch below), but when SooJin noted that it resembled a beehive, I knew the idea was too good to pass up.

I mean, seriously. What IS that thing?
A more sensible drawing below.

Sweet like a nut!
Bearded-naked honey approaching is the only true way holmes.
I thought you knew…

Thanks guys!
Jon—But what if you can’t grow a beard? Does a Fu Manchu count?
Frank—Did I ever leave? …Actually, I probably did.
Erik—Thanks Erik! It’s really good to hear from you. Hope all is well.

The image turned out great. It really tells a story and I really like your use of colour. I still like the weird alien fruit, though…it’s more organic…it looks ALIVE…
More alien fruits in future works, please.
